The interaction of electromagnetic radiation with one-electron atoms

ثبت نشده
چکیده

We examine the interactions of radiation with a hydrogen-like atom as a simple example that displays many of the typical characteristics of how atoms and molecules in general interact with photons. We will examine the spectral line processes of absorption, stimulated emission (emission caused by passing radiation), spontaneous emission (radiation without any external stimulus), and the continuum process of photoelectric absorption. In principle these processes should be described using quantum electrodynamics. However, this course is not at that level. We will describe the radiation ̄eld semiclassically (so we will have to study spontaneous emission using a statistical argument of Einstein), but use a quantum mechanical description of the atoms.

Propagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields

A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...

Quantum Mechanics_Atomic, molecular, and optical physics

Atomic, molecular, and optical physics (AMO) is the study of matter-matter and lightmatter interactions; at the scale of one or a few atoms [1] and energy scales around several electron volts[2]:1356.[3] The three areas are closely interrelated. AMO theory includes classical,semi-classical and quantum treatments. Typically, the theory and applications of emission, absorption, scattering of elect...

Microwave-driven atoms: from Anderson localization to Einstein's photoeffect.

We study the counterpart of Anderson localization in driven one-electron Rydberg atoms. By changing the initial Rydberg state at fixed microwave frequency and interaction time, we numerically monitor the crossover from Anderson localization to the photoeffect in the atomic ionization signal.

شبیه‌سازی ذره‌ای شتاب دادن الکترون‌ها در پلاسمای کم چگال

One of the interesting Laser-Plasma phenomena, when the laser power is high and ultra intense, is the generation of large amplitude plasma waves (Wakefield) and electron acceleration. An intense electromagnetic laser pulse can create plasma oscillations through the action of the nonlinear pondermotive force. electrons trapped in the wake can be accelerated to high energies, more than 1 TW. Of t...
